Stamp Duty- Govt scraps 15-yr cap for women homebuyers who seek 1% rebate
The Maharashtra government has relaxed a key restriction it had imposed on women property buyers who get 1 per cent rebate on stamp duty on their purchase.
While granting the concession, the government had earlier imposed a restriction, saying that a woman availing the benefit could not sell a residential unit to a male buyer for the next 15 years.
The 15-year cap has now been removed, said Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while reading out the Budget proposals.
Manju Yagnik, vice-chairperson of Nahar Group and senior VP of National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) in Maharashtra, has welcomed the move saying that the state is empowering women homebuyers.
‘Today, many women are entrepreneurs, who are independent and contribute to the economy. The decision is a good step to encourage many such women,’ Yagnik added.
Woman homebuyers will continue to enjoy the 1 per cent concession on stamp duty.
