This year, rain and snow continued to lash the Himalayan shrine towns till May, leading to extreme cold conditions, making cardiac arrest and pulmonary issues top causes for the casualties.
As per the figures, till Monday, 58 pilgrims had died during the Kedarnath yatra. Data accessed by TOI shows pilgrims who lost their lives mostly came from Bengal, Maharashtra, UP, MP and Gujarat.
Over 2,500 pilgrims were provided oxygen when they faced difficulty in breathing as they trekked to reach the shrine nestled at 11,775 ft.
